Parakeet Eye Basic Anatomy

A parakeet should of course have two eyes, just like most other creatures. Having two eyes allows a parakeet to keep watch for predators very easily. Keets do not need super-sharp eyes to spot prey, like an owl or a hawk does. Parakeets don't tend to eat things that scurry away from them :) On the other hand, lots of creatures like to eat parakeets. Therefore, parakeets have to be able to spot danger quickly, and to escape from it.

Parakeets have eyes with two main parts - the inner black pupil, and the outer white part. This is similar to most other animals. Like you learned in biology class, the pupil lets the light in, so the animal can see. Parakeets can see in color, and have vision similar to but better than a human's.

Parakeets do have eyelids, which they can close when they sleep or when they want to brush dirt specks out of their eyes. They have little eyelashes on their eyelids to help keep their eyes clean.
