Vitacraft Orange Kracker Sticks
Talk about candy for a parakeet! First off, the basic seed in these sticks is millet. The millet is rolled in sugar, corn dextrine, a bit of sheet flour for texture, then molasses, honey and yes, a bit of orange and corn. It's amusing that this is called a "complete pet food for budgerigar" on the label. I'm sure that this is the type of diet that all healthy keets ate out in the wild :)Sure it is a treat that your keets will probably LOVE. When I put the 2 sticks in the cage with my four keets, they went crazy, chomping it down like little monsters. If you're looking for a special treat, this is probably a good choice. But I definitely wouldn't feed these things to my keets every day. If I did, they would turn into little blimps that could no longer fit through their cage door.
On the positive side, where millet is very 'easy' to eat, this stick requires the keets to gnaw and twist to get the bits off. So in that sense it's a great thing!
