Kaytee Popped Li'l Snacks

In essence these are like the rice crispie rice squares that many of us ate as kids. They are rectangular "collections" of puffed items. This is msot definitely a treat and not a food. The items that make it up are puffed millet, rice, flour, dextrose, corn syrup ... i.e. candy :)

The problem I had with these was how to serve them. They are rather hard to gnaw on. I put the rectangle into a food dish. The keet would lift it up with her beak, try to gnaw some parts off of it while balancing and holding it with her foot, and drop it. I'd go pick it up. She'd do it again, get a mouthful and drop it. I'd go pick it up. It got to the point where she was flinging the square with glee, getting a bit into her mouth and launching the rest of it across the room. I'd have to go fetch it and wait to see how long it would take her to do it again. Of course this was great fun and exercise for her! Which is a nice thing. It was a combination of food and toy.

I couldn't clamp the rectangle down because the clamp would have just shattered the rectangle. I suppose I could have gotten some twist-ties and made an X around the rectangle and seen how long that lasted. But it was sort of fun to play fetch with the keet, so I just kept doing that.

I'll note that only one of my 4 keets went after this treat, the others ignored it. So you might want to see if your keet enjoys it before buying a lot of them.
