Romano's Italian Restaurant Anchorage Alaska

Romano's is a high quality Italian restaurant in Anchorage, Alaska. The bar area is lovely with stained glass decorations, polished wood tables and a quiet atmosphere.

We began here with drinks. The service was a little slow - we had to go up to the bar proper to ask for a waitress after waiting for a while - and they do not have a large selections of wine by the glass. Still, the atmosphere is very lovely, and it's the perfect place to sit and talk for a while with friends or to wait for your table to become available.

The main restaurant has several different areas, including a raised, central spot. This helps to keep the noise level down even when the rooms are crowded. The waitstaff is very friendly and helpful, going above and beyond to make sure things are being taken care of.

The menu has a selection of items of all styles - pasta dishes, chicken, veal, seafood, salads, and more. I went with a veal marsala, along with a salad. Others at the table had a variety of other dishes. The soups were great, the salads were great, and the veal was delicious. People were trading tastes of their items to show just how tasty the items were.

For dessert we got a large serving of Italian ice cream and shared it. The staff was quite happy to arrage the serving so that it was easily shared amongst us, and to bring out coffee for us.

I wouldn't call this exactly a "romantic" restaurant. While it's very good quality food, it's more set up for families and large groups. It's great for a girl's night out, or for a family celebration of mother's day or someone's birthday. It's not inexpensive - but it's well worth the money spent.

Well recommended if you're in Anchorage and are looking for a great night out!

From a reader:

Thank you for your excellent review of Romano's in Anchorage, Alaska. It's one of my favorite restaurants. If you're interested in adding to it, they have one waiter, Bruce, who is a parent's dream! They try to seat all families with young children in his section because he's so great with kids. He tells them jokes, makes a special salad in the shape of a funny face and makes sure they have a wonderful experience in the restaurant, all while still providing excellent service to the adults in the party. His section is family friendly, including a small area for little ones to play on the floor if need be. Families don't have to worry about bothering other diners and other diners don't have to worry about small children interrupting their meals. Romano's is a great way to introduce children to dining in a nicer restaurant, without the stress of expecting them to behave completely like adults.
