Gwennies Anchorage Restaurant

Gwennies is a tradition in Anchorage, an old time restaurant which has lasted the ins and outs of fashion. This family style dining offers a variety of down-home meals that are quite tasty, in a rustic atmosphere.

Gwennies Anchorage Alaska You can easily spot Gwennies as you drive past it on the main strip through Anchorage. Located out by the airport, it's convenient to the many hotels in this area, and its bright murals and exterior lure you in. It's within walking distance of the Millennium and other nearby hotels.

The interior decor is very down home and friendly. Wooden tables, round-stone walls, and lots of stuffed animals (the wild kind, not the teddy-bear kind) decorate every nook and cranny. Even the bathroom has stone walls with a sink attached to them. There are families with kids, laughing groups of women, and the friendly staff.

Gwennies Anchorage Alaska I had the Fisherman's Platter to get a sample of a variety of fish offerings, including the famous King Crab which those on the Deadliest Catch TV show chase after. The servings for all of our meals were large and tasty. Being a family menu, they did not offer a wine list, but they were able to get me a glass of the "house red" - a Moose wine. There are times that red wine does not go well with fish, but in this case it was light and paired quite nicely!

One thing Gwennies is famous for is serving breakfast all day long. In fact, one of my friends I went with ate breakfast when we went there for dinner. Another rumor is that the upstairs was once a brothel.

Be that as it may, Gwennies offered a friendly atmosphere, friendly service and tasty diner-style food at a reasonable price. You can get some eggs if you want, or king crab, or any casual style food in between. If you visit Anchorage, you should stop in at least once!
