Da Vinci Code Trip - London, Paris, Scotland
Sunday was our day to visit Paris, France. Unfortunately for our timing, Paris and indeed all of France was involved in a full scale riot. About 10 days ago, 2 immigrant boys were killed trying to escape police - they had climbed onto an electric fence. The immigrants since then had been burning cars and shooting at police. We decided to give this trip an attempt anyway.
Joan drove us to the airport, and we got our EasyJet tickets without any problem, as we had no luggage. Soon we were on our plane and heading out over the lovely English countryside over to France.
The flight was very quick and soon we were on the ground at Charles DeGaulle airport. It was an easy walk down to the train terminal. The ticket person spoke English and we got 2 all-day passes for all of the train systems.
We walked down to the track area. We let the first train go past, opting for the second train which was marked as an express to Gard du Nord. We were going right through the main riot areas and it seemed best to go quickly.
Gard du Nord, where we "landed", was the station that the "revised" Da Vinci Code had Robert and Sophie buying their fake ticket to Lille from. The original version of the story had the pair buying a ticket from a different station, one that didn't go to Lille :)

The wheels were cool and rubber - I had trouble getting a photo of them.
The train ride was without incident, and soon we were at the station. It was well marked how to get to the metro line that served the Louvre. The trains were all very modern and clean here, and in fact some had rubber wheels so they were almost silent. Quite unlike Robert's description of them being old steam engine style trains!! The metro took us right to the shopping area associated with the Louvre.
