Pricing for the Bermuda Cruise

We were heading to Bermuda with a family group in August 2005. We needed 4 rooms for 13 people, broken out with:
* a double
* a triple
* 2 quads

We didn't care where the double was located, but we wanted the other 3 rooms to be as close together as possible and to have windows. This was perhaps the only time in many of our lives that we would go on a cruise ship.

Expedia offered a program where if you booked it with them, and then found a cheaper rate elsewhere within 48 hours, they would match the discounted rate AND give you a $50 gift certificate to GiftCertificates.com. So the aim was to book with Expedia for the reliable website and 24 hr service. Then we could track lower rates for 48 hours straight to make sure we had the best price.

We get the gift certificates and commissions sent to us, so those are 'income' for us :)

Double
I booked the double as a type "N" guaranteed which meant we had no idea where it would be located, and it might upgrade over time. This is for the grandparents who wanted the cheapest room possible and didn't care about a window.
Initial cost: $1,842.46 at Expedia
Rebated cost: $1,753.70 after price discount (cruisesatcost.com)
... $50 gift certificate and $20 commission
Final cost: $1,683.70, or $842 per person
Location: unknown / type N

Triple
The triple was for James and his 2 friends. It was the lowest deck, with a window.
Initial cost: $3,156.19 at Expedia
Rebated cost: $2,995.05 after price discount (cruisesatcost.com)
... $50 gift certificate and $20 commission
Final cost: $2,925.05, or $975 per person
Location: Caribbean 319 / type D

Quad 1
The quad was for the 4 Mottram kids. This was the VERY LAST of this room on the ship! Again, the lowest deck, with a window.
Initial cost: $3,869.92 at Expedia
Rebated cost: $3,723.84 after price discount (via Expedia staff)
... $20 commission
Final cost: $3,703.84, or $925 per person
Location: Caribbean 320 / type D

Quad 2
This quad was for the 4 parents. This was the room we had so much trouble with, because when we booked Quad 1 we took the very last 4-person room on the Caribbean deck (the lowest deck). There were simply none left now. After a great deal of searching and investigating, we decided to go with a 4-person room on the very next deck up, Biscane. The Biscane deck only had 4-person quads in class DD (i.e. higher price for exact same size/shape room, because it was "higher up").
Initial cost: $4,249.92 at Expedia
Rebated cost: $4,016.00 after price discount (cruisesatcost.com)
... $50 gift certificate and $20 commission
Final cost: $3,946 or $986 per person
Location: Biscane 429 / type DD

Total Price for 13 people: $12,258 or $943 per person

Breakdown prices by room type:
2 non-window people: $1,683 or $842 per person
11 window people: $10,575 or $961 per person
