Tue Jul 13 - Flying In to San Francisco
Tuesday was the day Bob and I were to head off to San Francisco for our Pandora Tomorrow gaming tournament extravaganza. It was also the day that my son, James, was to go to New Hampshire to spend the time with friends up there. So this was to be an extremely busy day for me!
James woke me up at 6:30am, then 7:30am for us to get going. By 8am we were up and out of the house, fully packed. We grabbed his friend Bill and began driving north. We got up to northern New Hampshire at Billy's house by around 11:30 and dropped the group off. I turned around and drove right back south again, getting home by around 2:15.
Bob arrived shortly from work and we hopped in the car to Logan. We got to long term parking, then went through the ticket line and into the LONG security line. The line was made incredibly slow by two things. First, a couple and their baby took literally 10 minutes to slowly ... slowly ... put things onto the xray machine and unfold everything. Then the family behind them took another 10 minutes (literally) figuring out what to put on the xray machine and what to wear through the detector. If only the people had watched the constantly-running video clearly explaining these things while they waited in line ...
In any case we were finally through, got some food and got to our gate. A quiet announcement says that the plane is at a different gate and though we get up and move, hardly anybody else does. The plane is practically empty when we get on it and eventually they hand-round-up the rest of the people. Even so, we have our aisle to ourself and have supplies to ride through the non-low-carb options of either tortellini or bean/rice with bits of chicken.
In a clear sign that the non-stop-playing of multiplayer Pandora Tomorrow over the past week is getting to me, I awake and swear that we are flying through skyscrapers and can see spy tunnels in them. I try to wake up Bob to see but he's too sleepy to look. We finally land at 10:20pm in San Francisco. Even in the airport, I'm always watching for where the cameras are located.
We take a cool robotic electric tram to the rental car area. A poor, tired guy is hunting for the Payless shuttle which makes me VERY happy we went with Hertz, which is right on site here. Hertz's normal rate on Travelocity and Expedia was around $80/day, but AAA had rates of $39/day which was an amazing cut. We grab our car and drive north; the route takes us downtown through a squiggle of not-stellar-streets. Eventually we land back on the Golden Gate Bridge and drive up to just south of Santa Rosa. We grab a Ramada Limited for only $49/night with SuperSaver coupons, but our PS2 won't hook up to the TV to practice our Pandora Tomorrow. Yes, we brought our PS2 with us, and all the hook-ups, just in case we could practice more. Sleepy time!
