DAY 6: Saturday Oct 25th: Bob and Lynnwood Chatting Here's the video: 2.4mb Video of Bob and Lynnwood Chatting Here's a video of Lynnwood explaining to Bob how the picking works, but there's also a conversation between Becky and Kate in the background going on too so it's sort of hard to hear. I did the best I could :) The transcription for this is in two parts, one part with the people in the foreground (Kate, Becky) and another with Bob and Lynnwood in the background. |

Becky, Kate and Warren Lee
Warren Lee: ... From my dad ... so I ... he took that from the other guy ...
Kate: OK, so that's right, just stuff it back in there ...
Becky: Stuff it back?
Kate: They'll never know.
Becky: Oh?
Kate: It won't stuff back in there, baby, I was being silly ...
Becky: So what do they do now? Is someone goin' to take it ...
Kate: They use the big ... cotton ... picker ... and separate it out ...
Becky: How do they separate it out?
Kate: Don't know, I don't know how that thing works.
Becky: Somebody was saying ... a guy in Galveston ... that was really smart, ummmm he'd get all this cotton and he would store it down in Galveston and it was so humid that it would just hold water ...
(noise)
Becky: down ... and when it got .. and when the cotton was good, then he'd sell it to people and the weight up it was just outrageous ...
Kate: yup ... by the pound ...
Kate: I don't know how the hell that works, I have no idea.
Becky: So ...
Kate: I see them goin' through the fields ...
Becky: So ... back ...
Becky's Notes: Actually .. I was saying I was visiting a friend in Texas and we went to Galveston. They were talking about the cotton warehouses there. The guy that owned them, years ago, made a fortune because he would store the cotton until the humidity would soak in making it weigh a lot more than when he bought it. Then he would sell it based on weight shipping it out on boats from the Galveston harbor .
Bob and Lynnwood
Lynnwood: So, this, this ... these are just the bowls ...
Bob: yup.
Lynnwood: but they'll never bloom.
Lynnwood: Now they ... they just get the little bowl ... and pull ...
Bob: yup
Lynnwood: That's gonna be like ... that's kinda sharp ...
Bob: So when the machine comes through it picks it like that? Picks the whole thing?
Lynnwood: No, no no no, no. it has little spinners, Bob, and spin it, lots of them, you see how the ...
Bob: And then they hook into the ..
Lynnwood: They hook in and then ... they have to take off of it ... or it woun't be ... room ... it comes around the field like ... spinnin' it ... a fan ... (something) ... a fan ...
