Smile Exercises - Mirror

When you do smile exercises, you are getting your face muscles in shape so that when you DO smile, it looks natural, healthy and full. You don't want your face to look rigid or stretched - those make your face look aged and angry.

These exercises all work best with a mirror in front of you. While you can do the other exercises while driving in a car or anywhere else really, these would be good for a morning routine.

Smile Exercise 1
This can be a tough one, but it is critical towards helping your top lip not look "thin". Thin top lips are a common sign of aging. Pout / pucker out your top lip. You want to try to touch your nose with it. After you practice this a bit you'll find you CAN touch your nose. Hold this for five seconds. Relax. Do this three times. The aim here is the more your top lip learns to "rotate", the more full it will look. You're fighting gravity here :)

Smile Exercise 2
This is similar to the previous exercise. Pucker / pout the top lip. Put a pencil across the top of it. Try to hold the pencil in between your top lip and your nose. This might be challenging at first but it really can be done! Hold for five seconds. Relax. Do this three times.

Smile Exercise 3
This is similar to the lip stretching exercises from the other page, but with a twist. Keep your lips together and do not show your teeth. Stretch your lips wide - but try to make sure the ends curve up. The mirror can really help with this one. Aim for a balance of as wide as you can go - but with still a visible "up" curve on each end. Hold this for five seconds. Relax. Do this three times.

Smile Exercise 4
This exercise can be a bit challenging. You want your lips to pucker - but you do NOT want to pucker your lips. Instead, let your lips relax and be completely neutral. Then press in with your CHEEKS to squish your lips together. It's a tricky balance but if you look in the mirror you should see your cheeks moving in for this one. Your lips should feel pretty relaxed. Hold this for five seconds. Relax. Do this three times.

The aim of all of this is to get your cheek and lip areas to stretch out, to become more healthy and full in their relaxed, natural state. The more you get the blood flowing in your cheeks, the more naturally healthy they will look.
