Smile Exercises - Lips

When you do smile exercises, you are getting your face muscles in shape so that when you DO smile, it looks natural, healthy and full. You don't want your face to look rigid or stretched - those make your face look aged and angry.

These exercises help to stretch out your lips so that when you smile they do not seem stretched and tight against your teeth. You always want your lips to look full and plump when you smile.

It's a good idea to use chapstick before doing these exercises, so that your lips are supple and ready for them.

Smile Exercise 1
Stretch your lips into the widest smile you can without hurting yourself. Don't worry about showing teeth or not showing teeth - just focus on the width. Hold this for five seconds. Relax. Do this three times.

Smile Exercise 2
Yawn as widely as you can - stretching your mouth into a gigantic letter O. Wiggle your mouth around a bit to help it stretch. Hold for five seconds. Relax. Do this three times.

Smile Exercise 3
Similar to the previous exercise, open your mouth as widely as you can. This time imagine you are a lion roaring. Bare your teeth. Wiggle your tongue around to add to the roar. Hold this for five seconds. Relax. Do this three times.

Smile Exercise 4
With your lips together (no teeth showing) do the widest smile you can with closed lips. Hold this for five seconds. Now bring your lips together into a pushed-out pucker, pushing the lips as far out as they can go. Hold this for five seconds. Relax. Do this three times.

The aim of all of this is to get your lips to stretch out, to become more plump and full in their relaxed, natural state. The more you get the blood flowing in your lips, the more naturally healthy they will look.
