Planet Spa Hawaiian Thermal Volcano Warming Face Mask

I'm becoming a little suspicious about what Avon products call a "mask". In the old days, a mask was something you smoothed onto your face, waited 10-15 minutes for it to dry, and then peeled or washed off. The thought was that as the mask dried it stuck to the gunk in the pores of your face, and drew that gunk out of your pores. When you washed off the mask, you were also washing away all the stuff that had been down in your pores.

Thermal Planet Spa Then we come to this product. First, it has scrubby sand like bits in it - so as you rub it over your face, it's exfoliating your face. This is fine in an exfoliant, but not so fine in a mask. Now all that stuff that was dug up is going to sit on your face for a while. I would much rather exfoliate separately - when I need it - and use the mask when my face is smooth but in need of a pore cleansing.

Next, this goo gets very hot the moment you start rubbing it. I admit it's a very neat sensation! Not only does it do it right at the beginning, but even when you go to splash water on your face to wash it off it heats up again. I could imagine someone having a lot of fun with this. I do imagine it helps the pores open up - pores naturally open up when you have heat on them. So this even more points out to me that the scrubby bits shouldn't be in the goo. You don't want little scrubby bits that could get INTO the pores that are opening up wide. You only want a smooth clay that can easily stick to things inside the pores and wash out again.

So now you've got this warm goo on your face and you leave it on for ... oh wait! You don't! Even though this is a mask, they tell you to just wash it off again. So it never even had a chance to connect to goo and to get your pores clean. I'm not sure how this qualifies as a mask then. It more qualifies as a scrub. Maybe they thought the mask name had more of a ring to it or something.

I think I'd like it as a face "wash" if it didn't have the scrubby bits in it. But to have my pores wide open and sensitive - and have scrubby bits raking over them and getting stuck in them just doesn't make much sense to me. Especially since it warms as you remove it, so the pores are left wide open at the end too. With a regular mask it's cooled at that point and your face is smooth and even.

Neat idea with the warming - much better in lotion or foot rub form.
