Professional Body Waxing
For the same of science, I recently went into a local spa that offered lip, eyebrow and body waxing. I had them do my lip and eyebrows to see how hot waxing worked, and talked with the owner about the process.
She told me that the average waxer comes back every 2 weeks to get re-waxed, to pull out the new hairs. A that point the hair is around 1/4" to 1/2" long again depending on the person. My first comment here is that that is awfully long hair to be walking around with, if you in fact care about being hairy. Two weeks after I was waxed, I did inded have around 3/8" of hair growth and had to shave before I went out to a dinner event. So you would have to wax weekly if you wanted to be "presentable" and rely on the wax method. That is both a lot of money to be paying as well as a lot of time to be spending going to and from the waxing location.
But what is it like? She has a small crock-pot of wax that she heats up to a very hot temperature. Then she takes a stick and ladels it onto your body. Yes, it hurts. The wax dries a bit, clinging to the hair. She then rips the wax off your body in a quick motion, pulling out the hairs with it. This part hurts too. She says that each person has different levels of pain receptors so some might hate the legs worst, while others might hate the lip waxing worst. It's very individual.
In general I wouldn't recommend this technique. It rips off some skin while it takes out the hair, which then leaves you tender. The hair grows back just as fast as with other techniques and it ties you in to frequent visits and outlays of cash.
