Skin So Soft Hair Removal Cream

I have tried perhaps every hair removal technique known on the planet. This includes things like sanding my legs with spinning discs. BIG mistake. Even regular hair removal creams caused me pain and didn't work. When Avon came out with a Skin So Soft hair removal cream, I was thrilled. I figured I had half a chance here.

First the cream. There is the standard sharp smell from this cream, but it is FAR less awful than other creams I've used. It was pretty tolerable. I did the routine of taking a shower first to warm up and soften the hairs, then gently towel dry and apply the cream in a thick layer. I waited the maximum 10 minutes - to my amazement this did not hurt at ALL. My legs felt quite fine the entire time. Then I sat on the tub's edge and used warm water and a plastic "bladeless razor" that I got from Avon with the cream in order to take off the hair in the recommended manner.

It was pretty impressive how floppy the hair was now. Much of it did come off easily which I suppose is far better than I'd seen with any other product I'd used. Still, there were pieces left here and there, and you could still clearly see the hairs were just being "broken off" at skin level. All of the hair below the skin was still there. Maybe it was there and floppy? Maybe when it got pushed out my legs would be quite smooth? My legs felt stubbly and looked a little stubbly at this point.

Past experiences had me ready for anything. Various things I have tried have led to excruciating pain that only appeared the following day, or hours later. But again, the Skin So Soft surprised me. My legs felt a little tight, perhaps, but they felt great. No pain at all. Kudos to Avon for that! And yet, in the hair removal category, the jury was out.

Undeterred, I waited 2 days until a noticeable layer of stubble was showing on my legs. Maybe now I could finish off these little suckers. Once again, I spread the cream on both legs. I waited my 10 minutes. Again, I was quite impressed at the complete lack of pain or discomfort. Again, the little hairs seemed a bit floppy - but either using the bladeless razor from Avon or a regular washcloth didn't get the legs down to really smooth. It wasn't like the cream was dissolving away the hair. It was weakening it - and whereever you happened to push against the hair with your bladeless razor or washcloth or whateever caused it to snap off in that spot. So unless you really scoured your skin to snap it down at the surface, you ended up with little nubs everywhere.

Also, I was only testing on my legs below the knees, and even so after these two test runs, I was nearly out of cream. The container holds 4oz, and it seems to make sense you'd want about 1oz per lower leg to coat it all smoothly. Still, if you're going to do this once a week, it could get expensive, especially when compared to the price of a razor. Plus, shaving would be faster, if you count in 10 minutes of coating your legs, 10 minutes of waiting for the cream, and then another 15 minutes to try to rinse everything off as thoroughly as you can.

Definitely one of the best options I've tested, but still not quite right. It encourages me enough that I'll keep buying it though, to see if I can figure out a technique that will get the hairs to really snap off. It would be great, of course, if it would dissolve DOWN past the skin layer so that you get a true, smooth leg for a day or two.
