Olive Oil Hot Oil Hair Recipe

Olive oil is probably one of the oldest hair care recipes used anywhere. The Greeks loved it. The Romans loved it. Olive oil is natural, plentiful and very good for you.

You can uses this in its very basic form with no work at all. Just heat up a quarter cup of olive oil by whatever method works well for you. I like to put it in a small plastic container and float that in a cup of hot tap water for a few minutes. Then get into the shower and dampen your hair. Wring out your hair gently.

Olive Oil

Pour on the hot oil, coating all of your hair and massaging it in. The massage is very good for your scalp, keeps your hair follicles healthy and ensures the oil gets everywhere onto your hair. Let it sit for a minute. I use this time to practice tree pose in the shower to strengthen my stability. I do have a floor mat in there so it's not slippery! That's key for ANY oil treatment you use, because the tub will get a bit slick.

Now rinse out the oil and then shampoo. You really want to shampoo after the oil step. Otherwise your hair and skin will stay oily which is generally not a good look.

I wouldn't do this every day, but 2 or 3 times a week is a nice balance to keep your hair shiny and healthy looking.

If you want to you could add aromas to the oil - lavender, rosemary - but really it is going to be washed out shortly after going on so it won't make a difference in the end. Only bother if you want this stage of your hair care routine to be fragrance-filled for that one minute.
