Hot Oil Hair Recipe

Hot oil has been used by people to condition and care for their hair as far back as the days of the Greeks, Romans and Egyptians. The oil lubricates your scalp and helps to fight off dandruff and other skin conditions. It smooths out your hair. The key is to use hot oil in balance. If you just soak your head in oil all day every day it will get your skin very oily! Moderation is key here.

There are three main hot oil types that people use for their hair - olive oil, jojoba oil, and coconut oil. Each has its benefits.

With any hot oil, you do not want it HOT despite the name. You want it WARM. The best way to do this safely is get a Pyrex glass measuring cup and fill it up with warm water that is warm to the touch but not burning. Put the oil into a small plastic container (just the amount you are going to use) and float that in the middle of the warm water. That way the oil only warms up to that tempearture and nothing higher.

If you use the microwave you risk getting the oil too hot and burning yourself. Oil is "sticky" and hard to wash off you, so this can be dangerous! Be very cautious when heating your oil.

Here are my own experiences using hot oil on my hair!
