When you play a hole in golf, there is a set score, or par, that you are expected to make. If you get the ball in the hole with one hit more than that score, you have hit a bogie.

So, for example, if the first hole in a course is par 4, they expect you to hit the ball 4 times to get it in the hole. If you get it in the hole with 5 hits, you have hit bogie.
