Recycled CD Ornaments

A fun, imaginative use for using old CDs is to turn them into ornaments! You can hang them on a Christmas tree, in a window, against an office wall, and in all sorts of other locations. They are pretty, personalized, and you can change them with the seasons!

First, draw simple shapes onto a number of your old CDs. I'm not an artist, so you can see that "anyone" can do this :) It's great fun for kids!

Next comes the part that an adult needs to do. Use a Dremel tool or another similar tool to cut along the guidelines of the shape. Cut over a trash can, as the outside is going to come off in pieces.

Here's a finished star shape! You can do all sorts of shapes - stars, snowmen, hearts, you name it. Your creativity is the limit!

I know it's tempting, but do NOT try to do this with scissors. I tried to make this star shape in the lower left with scissors. The CD snapped off many times and bent as well. Scissors do not do well with CDs :)

Now you can decorate! Paint the CD, add on sparkles or glitter, and go wild. The CD is nicely reflective and does very well with sun shining on it, nearby lights, candles, you name it! Make new ornaments for every family member, and for every season and year!
