Are you dreaming about snakes? Are the snakes friendly, or do they bite you? Do they try to constrict you? Snakes have been a powerful symbol in our culture for thousands of years.For many, snakes have been used as a symbol of something bad or wrong. St. Patrick reputedly drove the snakes out of Ireland. In the Garden of Eden, it was the snake that tempted Eve with the apple. In Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, a brave mongoose saves the family from a wicked snake. In the Indiana Jones series, the fearless adventurer had one weakness - he was terrified of snakes!
So snakes are often seen as a very dangerous unknown - something that can cause you pain with little warning. They can also stand for knowledge - Eve had her "eyes opened" to the reality of the world by the snake.
So was the snake in your dream friendly and wise, maybe even trying to lead you to some destination? This could be the snake of knowledge, trying to get you to learn something new, or open your eyes to a situation around you. Instead of avoiding the truth, it might be time to stand up and face it.
Is the snake in your dream hostile, and trying to constrict you? This might mean that someone in your life is not supporting you, is trying to hold you back when you want to reach your dreams and stretch your wings. It might be time for you to distance yourself from this "snake" who is interfering with your goals. A true friend would always support you in your dreams, not hold you back.
In the dream, is the snake a biting kind, trying to poison you? This is a more subtle kind of enemy. This enemy wants to damage your life by trying to make you unhappy with it, to turn your hope into despair. Who in your life could be causing this sort of impact? Find ways to spend less time with that individual. Even though poisoning might SEEM less damaging than actual constricting, if the person is harming your drive to achieve new goals, that can be one of the worst attacks of all.
