Cheap Fourth of July Decorations
The Fourth of July is a time for celebration, picnics and fun! Here are cheap ways to decorate for this spectacular holiday.
First, make or get cheap candles. The Fourth is all about sparkling fun. Put groups of pillars in various locations - making sure that they are quite safe and not able to set anything on fire. You can get red, white and blue candles, or just silver or white ones.
There are numerous patriotic or band themed CDs available - and you can get them very inexpensively at many second hand CD stores. Get a few of them and set up your CD player to keep the background lively and fun.
Stop by your local rummage store or thrift shop looking for random plates of red, white and blue. They don't need to match - just put them out in combinations with a variety of food items on them. Blackberries and raspberries are perfect combinations to use on a white plate. Jello also comes in a variety of colors and can be wonderful for this sort of purpose. Cut it into star shapes.
Get some red, white and blue construction paper, and cut them into stars and streamers. Tape them onto your walls and windows.
Silly string comes in a variety of colors and is a perfect, safe way to celebrate the holiday. Send showers into the air, or attack each other with glee! Colored ballons up in the sky, on long ribbons, can also add to the festivities. It's important to be cautious with "real" fireworks. Even sparklers can burn hands and damage eyes if caution is not taken. Make sure any fireworks are legal in your area and that all children are supervised. Even children who are far from the main festivities can be injured if somethign goes awry. As always, get yourself a large Rubbermaid style container to hold all of your Fourth of July items. That way when the season comes to an end, you can pack it all up safely, label it, and tuck it into a cool, dry corner. Your energy and time will serve you well when you pull out the decorations for next year!
