A chairde,

Patricia Jettie (P.O. Box 81554, Athens, GA 30608-1554) sent us some wonderfully helpful information about searching for our roots. Since a lot of Irish SIG members are interested in genealogy, I'm dedicating this issue to Patricia's contribution and the first of a new series of articles by Michael Greaney, which continues the story from the point where his series on the Norman invasion left off. The list of new members (of whom there aren't many because of the erroneous information in the last Mensa Bulletin), Mildred's dance lesson, and our other features will be back next time.

Go raibh mle maith agat, Patricia, for your generous offer of help! I think the SIG members will be keeping you pretty busy in the near future.

I am very sorry that we didn't have a May-August issue, because I was unable to corral a volunteer and was too busy acting as Executive Director of North Dakotans for Term Limits to do the issue myself. Next year, I will have the volunteer lined up months in advance! Your subscriptions will, of course, be adjusted to make up for the missing issue. Beannachta!

Dr. Patricia Jettie (P.O. Box 81554, Athens, GA 30608-1554) writes, "I have too many genealogical addresses to list them all. If you (or a SIG member) need an address for genealogical research in the USA, UK, or Eire, I will probably have it. For SIG members, I will look in my files for addresses/information and answer questions if a SASE is enclosed with the request. Enclosing a letter telling me about your research finds, and/or sharing a few (even one) addresses or interesting factoids, will get a letter and informational tidbits in return. Please type or NEATLY PRINT the information. I am not too swift with Irish or Scots Gaelic spellings, and one letter misunderstood might throw me off. It is best to tell me what record you are looking for as well as the office address you think you need. My index is by record, not title.

"I also have a LOT of genealogical addresses and information for the USA. I have been tracing my family history, maternal and paternal, for years. When friends found out what I was doing, I ended up tracing other histories as well. Part of what I have are: NARA (National Archives and Records Adminisration); State Vital Records addresses; State driving record addresses; State vehicle registration addresses; Armed Services addresses; and other assorted addresses like businesses.

"I have a directory of Social Security location codes. With the first three numbers of a Social Security number, I can tell you the state where it was issued.

"Write me if you need divorce addresses for England, Scotland, Wales, or Eire."
