Island Bay Resort
Tavernier Hotels
Tavernier is in essence part of Key Largo - it's just a bit further towards Key West. This makes it an ideal spot to stay whether you want to go in to Key West or back to the Everglades!
Here's a photo from their website -

The motel is well set up for fishermen. There are grills outside the rooms that let you roast your catch, and you can walk down to the tock to see the birds. Here's a pelican that was hanging out at the water just by the motel.

This isn't a luxury hotel. It's clean but very "beachy" and low key. The building runs at a 90 degree angle from the beach, meaning all rooms look out on the 'trees'. There is just one row of 10 rooms. Each room has its own casual decor. If you step out your door, you turn right and there the beach is. It's a very small place. The beach is small too - but ALL beaches in the Keys are. The keys are about coral - pretty much the only beaches here were made by hand.
So back to where you sleep. There's a small room with the bed in it, a tiny kitchen area to cook your fish (assuming you catch some) and a small bath. And a TV to watch if it rains. Again, staying here isn't about luxury hotel living. It's about having a nice spot to sleep, to wash up, and to get out fishing and exploring the keys again!
