The Prophecy
BBC Series Robin Hood
We start with a vague warning that Robin has to save a prisoner.
Little John is in prison, the Sherrif is gone, and Prince John is visiting Nottingham. Guy is all upset. He's told by the messenger that Prince John likes to take a bath twice a week. "Whatever for?" asks Guy. "It's his custom," responds the messenger blandly. "How extraordinary!" cries Guy, and the messenger responds calmly, "He is an extraordinary man."
When John shows up, he's got a hooded prisoner. Soon Robin has rescued Little John plus a poacher friend he's made. Prince John torments Guy. He tosses Guy into prison. Back in the forest, Robin decides they have to save the prisoner, and listens to the poacher's advice - he'll lure Guy and crew out of the castle, promising to turn over Robin, and they will then sneak into the unguarded castle.
There is of course a rather obvious double cross going on here. John tosses the poacher into prison with Guy. In short order Robin gets a hold of Abbot Hugo, they learn that the prisoner is Maid Marian's father, she has a fit, and they are en route to rescue him.
Prince John is really "over the top" - kissing women in the middle of giving orders. They do rescue the dad and he gives Robin his blessing. Soon allegiances have swapped again - Guy is in favor, John's pal is in the prison, they realize the poacher is a traitor. The poacher and father fight, Robin rides in to the rescue, and they catch him without killing him. Unfortunately, a short period of time later, the town gets news that King Richard is dead, and that John is named heir.
This isn't one of my favorites. I do like the double crossing aspect, but the storyline just seems very "forced" to me ... and the ending seems a bit weak.
