BBC Series Robin Hood
I had real issues watching this episode, because it was the first one without Michael Praed. I really liked his character a lot and was greatly upset that a new blonde guy was "taking over" his spot. This even though the blonde guy is Sean Connery's son. It just wasn't right. Of course Michael chose to abandon the show, so finally I gave in and began watching this half of the DVD set.
In this two partner, we are in essence "re-meeting" the crew a year after Robin's death. They have all been scattered by events. Marian and her dad are pardoned and hanging out together. She meets up with Robert, the blonde son of a local Earl. Note that this is interesting because in the real legends, Robin Hood is either a wronged poor person or the son of a nobleman. This series now has Robin be one of each. Robert is a bit of a twit, but of course in short time he love for Marian coupled with a few pushes by Herne get him out to talk to the crew. Each member resists for a while but of course gives in to the logic of things.
At the core of this plot is that Marian has been kidnapped by a guy who wants to marry her in a pagan ritual. She screams and cries, then is drugged and becomes a willing love slave. She even kisses his feet on her way to the marriage ceremony. Next there's a gladiator scene right out of Conan. Of course Marian is rescued, her dad comes in and rides off with Marian.
Marian: "Do you think they'll accept you as their leader?"
Robert: "Would you?"
He watches as she leaves. Then it's a "hero shot" of the team together (without Marian) and the episode ends.
