Robin Hood and the Sorcerer
BBC Series Robin Hood

This two parter introduces us to the world of Robin Hood on the BBC, and does all of those things an intro should do - introduce the cast of characters, set the scene, give us a sense of the direction of the series.

You start with Robin Hood. His father was protector of the Silver Arrow of Herne the Hunter. The entire village is burned, and only Robin is saved by his father. The father doesn't do a very good job of protecting the arrow - he rides in to face his enemy and is easily slain. Robin grows up with the miller's family, including the dimwitted son, Much.

Skip forward a few years. Now a young adult, Robin is trying to keep Much out of trouble, but the two are soon in jail for poaching. Robin meets Will Scarlet and Little John. The Sheriff of Nottingham and Guy of Gisburne have the area in a tight fist. Robin and friends escape, but Robin of course runs into Marion in the castle. Marion's father has died in the crusades, and the Sheriff and brother Abbot Hugo want her land. Robin is in her room saying things like "Wow, you're not afraid of me!" while she is cringing on her bed, inching away from him. Hmmmmmmm.

Soon enough Marion has given her lands to the 2 brothers, and run off to a nunnery. This despite Robin's desire to marry her after only seeing her for a total of 1.5 minutes. That disappointed me a GREAT deal. Mature love comes from knowledge and time together. Aragorn and Arwen dated for 50 years before marrying. Robin just grabs the first pretty girl that comes along?? In any case, Marion is soon a prisoner, Robin goes in after her and kills off half of his men in the process. He does get the sorcerer's champion - Nasir - in the process though. Even this was suspect though. The two fight, Nasir apparently wins and then lets Robin go. Just why did he do that? Why does he join Robin later? It's never explained.

With Marion rescued, Robin takes her as a wife in no time at all, and the basic crew is complete. Tuck came along with Marion, the group are outlaws living in the forest.

I love the music, the scenery, and a lot of the dialogue. There are just a few odd plot lines that are never properly fleshed out!
