Mrs. Bennet
Pride and Prejudice Jane Austen
The mom in this story, Mrs. Bennet, is flighty and solely interested in marrying off her five daughters. You can look down on this behavior, but really, it was the aim of all mothers in the early 1800s. That is all that daughters were "good" for. Not only that, but in this situation, there was no family inheritance for the daughters to live on. If they did not find a good husband, they would have to work as servants. None of the daughters had been brought up with those sorts of skills.
