Gold - Thomas Hollyday

Everyone loves a good treasure hunt story. While it's fashionable to set them in the marble palaces of France or the ancient churches of Rome, author Thomas Hollyday brings a new twist to the gold rush by tucking his story into the quiet farmlands of the Chesapeake region. This tale is a mix of reality and fantasy, so be prepared to suspend your disbelief as you follow the intriguing characters down their rabbit-hole.

John Neale is a lawyer who's about to give up on his small town practice and move to the big city. He's exhausted from living bill to bill. Then suddenly a priest drops dead and it seems there might be millions in gold in the estate John now controls. But where is it? With claimants descending on all sides, he has to navigate a wild array of characters and learn the truth. Mix in Native American legends with pirates and you've got the recipe for an adventure!

I enjoyed delving into the characters and their motivations, and I love the setting. I really get a sense of the brambles and mud along the river. I got to learn something about the history of the land and ancient building techniques as well!

A fun ride.
