Customizing the Bookmark -
Making a Bookmark for Books
Rubber stamps are inexpensive, you can get them in a wide variety of styles, and then you can get ink pads in a wild myriad of colors. This means you could customize for years and never create the same design twice!
In my case, I love to customize with initial stamps. It really shows that the bookmark belongs to you. I've done initial stamps on celtic designs, on origami paper, on golden wedding-style paper, on embedded-petal tamarind paper and much more.
In the below image, I have used three different stamps. First, I stamped my tamarind paper with a large letter for the person, in a royal blue color. Next, I used a smaller snowflake stamp in gold, to celebrate the coming of a new year. Finally, I took one of those customizeable stamps with the little moveable letters, and I put together the phrase "BellaOnline 2008". This bookmark was to celebrate the New Year for 2008. Between pre-made stamp designs and the custom moveable-type stamps, you can get your bookmarks to say pretty much anything you wish!

This is also great for a small business. For my origami sales site, I have created origami bookmarks using gorgeous origami paper. I used a custom moveable-letter stamp to create a stamp to go on the back of these bookmarks. The stamp has the URL of my website and a description of what I offer. I send these along with every order. So the customer gets a beautiful bookmark that they really enjoy, and any time they decide they'd like some origami, they just flip it over to get to my URL. People rarely keep business cards, but they do keep bookmarks!
The next step is to laminate your bookmark, so that it survives usage.
