Mr. Collins
Pride and Prejudice Jane Austen

Mr. Collins is in the unfortunate position, because of the laws and wills, of having to inherit the Bennet estate when Mr. Bennet dies. Mr. Collins, a clergyman, feels badly about this and wants to marry one of the five daughters to make it up to them. Unfortunately, he settles on Elizabeth as his choice. Elizabeth wants nothing to do with him, so he immediately goes off and marries Charlotte instead.

Mr. Collins is notorious for being a status-seeker. His entire conversation is laden with references to the wealth and power of his benefactor, Mrs. Catherine DeBurgh. It's all he talks about. He also loves having the Lady rearrange his furniture, design his closets and do everything else to guide him.
