Wine, Martinis and Cocktails
|
James Bond has been with us for many decades now, and this suave spy always knows exactly the right wine or drink for any situation. Over the years, many have made his famous Vodka Martini to enjoy while watching the movies, or quoted his lines about Champagne and drink.
Being a fan of wine and drink myself, I've gathered together all of his wine and alcohol related quotes and recipes in these webpages! Please do contact me if you have any other information to add in!
First Mention of the Martini
This is in Dr. No. At James' hotel, the waiter says, "one medium dry vodka martini, mixed like you said sir, not stirred". There's a bottle of Smirnoff vodka and Lillet blanc there with the lime. Lillet Blanc is NOT a Vermouth, it's a wine aperitif.
First Mention of Champagne
In Dr. No, for dinner, Champagne is poured into triangular flute. "That's a Dom Perignon '55 - it would be a pity to break it," says Dr. No when Bond gets agitated. "I prefer the '53 myself," responds Bond, sitting down.
First Mention of Brandy
In Goldfinger, Bond shows off to M by picking on the brandy he is served. He says, "I'd say it was a 30 year old fined and indifferently blended, with an overdose of bon bois."
First Mention of Sake
In the fifth movie, James is International. Tanaka asks James, "You like Japanese sake, Mr. Bond - or would you like a vodka martini?" James replies, "Oh no, I like sake, especially when it's served at the correct temperature, 98.4F, like this is."
First Mention of Sherry
In the seventh movie, James is traditional again. Sherry is a blended dessert wine that is made from many different years of wine. James is able to pick out that the sherry he's served is originally from 1851.
