Lisa Shea Library of Published Books

To get a sense of what experience I have in publishing books, both through a traditional publisher, a self publisher in print, and ebooks in all shapes and styles, here are the books I currently have published. Feel free to ask me any questions about how I did a given book or how the process went.

Lisa's Medieval Novels

My medieval novels are available in two forms. The paperback version is done via CreateSpace, Amazon's self-publishing branch. The ebook versions are done via Kindle, also through Amazon. In both cases they were completely free to set up and done right on the Amazon website. The books are listed in release order. The ebooks are exclusive to Amazon in order to get access to the free promotions, which greatly boosted sales.

Cover Notes
These covers were professionally designed for me by Debi Gardiner of GardinerDesign.com. She hand drew these images herself, based on the descriptions I gave her. She then tweaked in minute detail based on my suggestions. If you click on a cover, you can go to a page which talks step by step about how each one was crafted. I'm extremely pleased how well the icons work at the small size, and how they're still attractive at a full size.

Lisa's Low Carb Books

I have four low carb cookbooks / reference books which are available in print from Lulu. In ebook form they are on the Amazon Kindle, and through Lulu they are available on Lulu, Apple, and Barnes & Noble. I use the Lulu interface to get to all three with one shot. The Lulu books are then available through Amazon, so they end up being on both systems. Again all of this was completely free to set up.

Cover Notes
I found the central images on iStockPhoto and bought them there. I then made the title letters myself, in PhotoShop. It was fairly easy. I love how the images catch the eye and are immediately identifiable even at small size.

Lisa's Wine Books

I have two wine books - one on sangria recipes and one on Champagne cocktail recipes. These are in print copies BOTH on Lulu and on Amazon. This is because Lulu offers spiral binding but only if you buy the book through Lulu. So to have a print copy available on Amazon I had to have a perfect bound (normal binding) entry in there. I have the ebooks available on Amazon Kindle, and through Lulu I have ebooks on Lulu, Apple, and Barnes & Noble. So these are the books with the most versions.

She took the images at my house on my kitchen table :) If I were to do them over again I probably would go with a more simple design. These were fine for full sized books but the images get a bit lost at the smaller thumbnail size that everybody sees on the web.

Lisa's Weddings & Courtships Books

I have three books on wedding & courtship traditions that were done through Windstorm Creative, an actual publishing company located in Washington state. They did not pay me up front for the books, nor did I pay them. Instead, as the books sell I get paid a royalty for each book. That is, a portion of the sale price goes to me. So in essence the end result is the same as a self-publisher, but rather than the books being printed on demand, Windstorm Creative ordered a batch of the books up front from a printer and has them sitting in a warehouse. Interestingly, the per-book price on Amazon seems to be on par with print-on-demand, and my author purchase price is about the same, too. So there wasn't any real benefit to going with the publisher. They aren't doing any marketing for me, and I can't make changes to the book since there are piles of them in a warehouse to sell.

These covers were professionally designed for me by Debi Gardiner of GardinerDesign.com. I adore the covers she designed. The colors reflect the flags of the nations, and the images also evoke the nation's culture. They do have the issue of being a bit complex at small thumbnail size.

Lisa's Relationship Self-Help Books

I sold these as PDF ebooks on RomanceClass.com for many years. I am just now getting around to converting them into proper EPUB ebooks to list on Amazon Kindle. They are not available in print right now. I am going exclusive with Amazon for now to get their free promotions.

I have thirty books available on BellaOnline. All are available as PDFs and some are also available as EPUBs. I am slowly working on getting these all live in the Kindle systems.

The Falling Asleep one can use some work though. In most of these cases I bought the image from iStockPhoto then added a title to it in PhotoShop.
