Sir Frederic Leighton was born in 1849 in Yorkshire, England. He trained in Germany, Italy, Belgium and France. Queen Victoria was fond of his work and he was given the post of artist by Royal Appointment.

He enjoyed painting scenes from the Bible, and also did a few sculptures, but he is perhaps best known for Flaming June, shown above. Another well known painting is The Painter´s Honeymoon, with the young painter working while his loving wife curls up against his arm.
