Origami Dragon Dragons are powerful symbols in just about every culture around the world. Dragons are prominantly displayed on several country flags and on many coats of arms. Dragons stand for strength, power, loyalty, protection, and change.
In the Chinese zodiac, a dragon symbolizes bravery and honesty. Years associated with the dragon are 1904, 1916, 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, and 2012. The stone associated with this zodiac creature is the amethyst.
In literature, dragons are often telepathic, able to sense thoughts and emotions at a glance. They are very powerful, as well as highly intelligent. They have long lives. In some stories they are solitary, while in other tales they can find groups of like-minded creatures to associate with. The Eragon story features a female dragon, Saphira, who is sapphire blue and quite tender and caring. In comparison, the famous Smaug from the Hobbit stories, sometimes called "Smaug the Golden", was miserly and used his great intelligence to watch close guard over his hoard of treasure. There are of course cute dragons, like the friendly green Yoshi from the Mario games! Mushu, the playful red dragon from Mushu, also falls into this category. Bring a dragon into your world, and enjoy the loyalty and protection that the dragon represents!
